National Champions Jefferson High School Drama

Intermediate Drama :
Prerequisite: Beginning Drama
Open to: All grade levels
Credit: ½ Fine Arts
One Semester
Students in Intermediate Drama will continue to expand on their Theatre education,again working in all facets of production. They may help choose their show or even help write it. They will perform a full length play. Expectations of dedication and performance ethic are higher in this class than beginning drama.
American Literature :
Prerequisite: None
Open to: Grades 10-12 It is recommended for Junior and Seniors
One Semester ½ English credit
American Literature is the study of materials written in American since 1607. Students will read poetry, non-fiction, essays, plays, short stories and novels. They will study the historical changes in the time period and the biographies of the authors. Students will do a great deal of reading and should expect, writing responses to the literature in the form of power essays, and analytical papers. Quizzes, unit tests and projects will also be included. It is a fun, informative but fast paced class.
University of Montana College of Technology American Literature 210
Prerequisite: Students must be at least 16 years old One semester of English Credit
Cost: Students will receive college credit through the university of Montana at a reduced rate. They will be responsible for purchasing their textbooks. Credits are transferable to all school within the Montana University System.
H210 is an introduction to American cultural traditions through readings and discussions of representative texts from the Colonial period to the present.
British Literature II :
Prerequisite: None, although students must be 16 years or older.
One semester for 3 college credits in English
Cost: Students will receive college credit though the University of Montana at a reduced rate. They will be responsible for purchasing their textbooks. Credits are transferrable to all schools within the Montana University system.
H250 will focus on the literature of Great Britain form 800 B.C.. to 1665 A.D. It will be an introductory look through British cultural traditions through readings and discussion.
H252 One semester for 3 college credits in English H252 continues on from 1665-present.
Introduction to Theater :
Prerequisite: None
Open to: Grades9-12
Credit: ½ Fine Arts
One semester
Introduction is a technical theatre class. Students will design, paint, build all sets for the drama class productions. They will work with power and hand tools, learn painting techniques, set design, lighting and prop building. The class is hands-on during the production stage. Successful students will be willing to work each class and be self motivated. During the period between shows, we will study the history of film through directors, technological advances and acting styles. We will study one Academy award winning Best Picture form each decade. Grade will be based on crew work and film quizzes.
Advanced Drama :
Prerequisite: Beginning and Intermediate Drama
Open to: Grade 10-12
Credit: 1 credit Fine arts
Full year
Students in Advanced Drama are the most talented and dedicated actors and technicians. Drama students earn the right to register through displays of positive work ethic and dedication. The class produces three full length shows throughout the year. One is often a musical performed in conjunction with band and choir. Students will take several advance workshops during the year with professional performers and entertainers. They will be encouraged to develop a theatre resume and continue their participation past high school. They will be introduced to college theatre programs. Instructor approval may be necessary for registration.
